TCVB's new support program for incentive tours and corporate meetings

TCVB started a new support program offering Japanese Taiko-Drum Entertainment for an incentive group or a corporate meeting from abroad which exceeds 200 room nights total per group
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum 200 room nights total per group in Tokyo
- Newly booked group between Oct. 1, 2009 and Mar. 31, 2010
- The group should visit Tokyo by Mar. 31, 2011

Program applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For further information, please contact convention@tcvb.or.jp.

Tokyo Bay Area Brochure for MICE Planners published

First English guide introducing the whole Tokyo Bay area (Tokyo, Yokohama and Chiba) as a MICE destination is published. This full-color, 8-page brochure invites the MICE planners to be aware of the charms of the area to provide a full-fledged service covering everything they need to hold events in Japan. It contains an area map and photos showing at a glance the major convention centers and unique venues as well as places of interest.
The statistics show that the Tokyo Bay area hosts more than one third (1/3) of all the international conferences and more than 70% of all the exhibitions held in Japan. The brochure will introduce the various assets this area possesses within a small radius.

Overview of the grand reopening Palace Hotel in 2012 is announced

The Palace Hotel Tokyo, which temporarily closed this January for total renovation, has announced an overview of the new Palace Hotel that will open in spring of 2012. The hotel focuses on providing spacious facilities and the highest level of services, limiting the number of guest rooms to 290. Furthermore, the new hotel will be equipped with 6 restaurants and bars and 13 banquet and wedding reception halls to meet the various needs of corporate and individual customers. Tokyo hosts a 3rd MICE Master Class

This year again, the city of Tokyo held its MICE Master Class from August 24 to 26. The Master Class covered a wide range of areas, aiming to boost basic knowledge and to improve practical skills in all aspects of MICE. Twenty-two persons participated in the event, all of whom are professionals involved in the promotion of hotels, convention facilities, PCOs and DMCs, etc. The fourth Master Class is scheduled to take place in February 2010, again with approximately 20 participants.

Tokyo takes 6th place in global rankings as a destination for international conferences

According to International Meeting Statistics for the Year 2008 published by the Union of International Associations (UIA), in 2008 a total of 150 international conferences were held in Tokyo, boosting it up to sixth position. This is two places higher than the results for 2007.

"2013 ITS World Congress" to be held in Tokyo!

Intelligent Transport System (ITS) is a revolutionary traffic system that processes information about people, roads and vehicles using the very latest IT for the purpose of reducing accidents and eliminating traffic congestion. It has been decided that the 2013 ITS World Congress will be held in Tokyo. This will be the third time for Japan to host the ITS World Congress, following the second meeting held in 1995 in Yokohama, and the 11th meeting held in 2004 in Nagoya, Aichi. The most recent meeting was held in New York in 2008, attracting approximately 8,000 participants. Given Tokyo's status as host city, representatives of city authorities will participate in the preparatory committee and Japan organization committee leading to the event.

The 2014 Annual Meeting of the International Bar Association (IBA) to be held in Tokyo!

Tokyo was chosen to host the 2014 Annual Meeting of the International Bar Association (IBA) as a result of a voting at the IBA Board Meeting held on February 21 in Dubai. The Annual Meeting is a large-scale international conference where approximately 5,000 lawyers gather from about 195 countries worldwide. A general meeting, conferences, exhibitions and a variety of other events are held during the roughly six-day period. The Annual Meeting is planned to be held at the Tokyo International Forum, and the TCVB predicts to gain considerably high economic ripple effects from this event in terms of tourism in Tokyo.

Palace Hotel to be temporarily closed from February 2009 for reconstruction

After 47 years of continuous service in the Marunouchi district, at the heart of Japanese economy and business, the venerable and highly regarded Palace Hotel is to close its doors temporarily from this February 2009 for a total renovation. The grand reopening is scheduled for 2012.
