Enormous complexes such as Roppongi Hills and Tokyo midtown have sprung up, and Roppongi has become a district that can be enjoyed not only at night, but also during the day for its shopping, cuisine and art. With the delicacies on offer at the many well-established restaurants in the adjacent Azabu Juban, it is a strangely alluring town that offers a taste of the cutting edge of Tokyo and the good old Tokyo of times past

Sightseeing Spots

Following the Mori Art Museum, the National Art Center and then the Suntory Museum of Art opened in 2007, putting Roppongi on the map as a giant art district. As the museums form a triangle on the map, they have been given the collective title of the Roppongi Art Triangle. There, you can not only view modern art and a variety of other art, but also take in various artistic spaces found in cafes, restaurants, shops and observation decks.

Azabu Juban was once the location of the mansions of feudal lords, and is a shopping town with a history going back over 300 years. The road is lined with venerable and nostalgic stores offering delicacies such as soba noodles and taiyaki pancakes shaped like fish, along with stylish boutiques and cafes, which combine to form a truly relaxing atmosphere. There are also many monuments in the shade of the trees lining the streets; one of which is based on the well-known Japanese nursery rhyme called "The girl with red shoes." The shopping town also holds many events such as the Azabu Juban Summer Festival to suit the passing seasons, making this a place of recreation and relaxation for locals and visitors alike.

Roppongi offers endless nightlife options including GASPANIC, a bar popular among foreigners, and Roppongi Kingyo, where transsexual dancers dazzle the audience with their show. You can enjoy music and a meal at STB139, watch sport at LEGENDS SPORTS BAR, or rent a room to sing Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese songs to your heart's content at Karaoke-kan. Roppongi Hills also has a sky lounge with a breathtaking view and there are countless inviting bars dotted throughout the area.

Shopping Spots

This enormous complex that opened in 2007 is filled with high-quality stores that focus on design and functionality. Shoppers can buy products in the collection of lifestyle goods made in Japan that are on offer at THE COVER NIPPON, a diverse range of chopsticks at HASHI CHO, and inexpensive yet stylish furniture and clothing at MUJI.

Roppongi Hills offers a wealth of stylish items made in Japan, such as the unique denim items available at KAPITAL and jewelry made in Kyoto that is sold in NIWAKA. BALS TOKYO ROPPONGI by AGITO is a new style of shop that features items from Japan and abroad centered on the concept of "from TOKYO".

This is the museum shop inside the National Art Center. There is a wide range if innovative original goods by artists and designers working across the boundaries of genre and style. All of these goods are unique items that add a twist to normal stationery and miscellaneous goods.

Restaurants

A popular izakaya restaurant (Japanese style bar) that gained fame for hosting President Bush and Former Prime Minister Koizumi. The open interior has an old-style Japanese feel. Patrons can enjoy creative Japanese cuisine such as yakitori and soba noodles as the staff call out orders in cheerful voices.

Paul Bocuse has maintained three Michelin stars for over 40 years, and he chose the unique location inside National Art Center, which has become a new must-see spot in Roppongi, as the first place in the world to establish a brasserie outside of Lyon, France. Enjoy authentic French cuisine in a casual setting for a reasonable price.

Kushinobo is a restaurant specializing in kushikatsu - cutlets of battered and crumbed meat, seafood and vegetables on bamboo skewers. The restaurant focuses on all aspects from ingredients to sauces, and offers an abundant variety of delicacies to suit every season.
